God is our help. Pt2

God the Sovereign Savior  Psalm 18

1 I will love You, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my [a]strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the [b]horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the Lordwho is worthy to be praised;

So shall I be saved from my enemies.
Good Morning. King David most likely wrote this psalm praising God for all He is. I noticed 7 things in this passage that the Lord was to King David! I would like to briefly discuss those today. When someone is our strength we don’t have to be strong we can trust our strength which comes from the Lord. Paul the Apostle wrote: Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities (weaknesses), that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  The psalmist wrote God is my Rock which reminds me of the rock of Gibraltar which cannot be moved! A fortress is a place of safety and refuge and if we run into the fortress we will be safe!

The next attribute of God I see here in our text is that God is our deliverer, another psalm comes to mind here: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19! The Lord is also a shield to keep the arrows of our enemies from harming us. God protects us from the weapons of our enemies! The horn on my salvation would mean that He is the power that is behind our salvation (that power is Jesus 1Corinthians 1:24)), the horn here means power! Lastly here God is our stronghold which no one can penetrate like a strong tower for the bible tells us in Proverbs 18:10 “For the name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous run into it and they are safe.”! The psalmist King David responds to the goodness of the Lord by saying: “ I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised….”  Will you and I praise Him today and call upon His name for who He is and all that He does for us? God bless.

The value of consoling.

2Corinthians 7

5 For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears. 6 Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, 7 and not only by his coming, but also by the [a]consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

Good Morning. Have you ever felt that no one cared for you? How important is it to you that there are people out there that have a gift of consoling, just being around them seems to make one feel better! Here in our text for today, the Apostle Paul tells us his days in Macedonia were filled with struggles and hardships. “Fightings without fears within” sounds like Paul is having a bad day until God sent (2Corinthians 1:3-4) an encourager into his life and that encourager was Titus. Just the presence of Titus comforted Paul and not only that but Titus brought encouraging news, he told Paul that the Corinthians had a zeal for Paul which comforted him even more. The question I have here is: are we bearers of good news or complainers of bad news? The choices we make can certainly bring hope and comfort and consolation to others! God bless.

Morality yields to eternal life.

2Corinthians 5

Inline image

4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as [c]a guarantee.

6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Good Morning. The tent being spoken of here in our verses is our body. Our great anticipation is change and according to 1Corinthians 15:51, we will be changed in a moment, and when that happens mortality will be “swallowed up” by eternal life! God will decide what kind of body we will have at that time (1Corinthians 15:35-38). We now know Christ in a Spiritual sense but at that time we will be face to face and be present with Him in a physical sense! PTL! So today we know Jesus by faith but in that Day we will absent from this “tent” but we will be present with the Lord forever. God bless.

No other way!

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is

“‘the stone you builders rejected,
    which has become the cornerstone.’[a]

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Good Morning. The Apostle Peter might have denied Jesus at one time but you would never know it here in our text. Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit is showing great boldness in proclaiming Jesus as being alive from the dead! Not only that but Peter here is giving ALL the glory for the healing of the lame man to Jesus! These are the rulers and people of Israel Peter is talking to and also blaming them for the death of Jesus. “You rejected the Cornerstone”, Peter proclaims, and not only that but aside from Jesus there is NO SALVATION, coming to and believing in Jesus is the ONLY way one must be SAVED!  In verse 13 which is not listed the rulers of Israel MARVELLED at the boldness of Peter and John, these simple unlearned men, but they also realized they had been with Jesus. If Jesus is your focus does He give you GREAT boldness? God bless.

Faith gives us victory.

By Faith We Understand  Hebrews 11

11 Now faith is the [a]substance of things hoped for, the [b]evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.3 By faith we understand that the [c]worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Good Morning. The word FAITH has been around in Christianity from the beginning and from our verse today we see that without it we cannot please God. How is something so incredibly important yet so vaguely understood by most? What is faith? Faith to me would be like a trusted person describing a sunset to a blind person and the blind person “seeing” it in his mind like it really is! The evidence of things not seen but believed is faith. The Holy Spirit writes on our hearts the meaning of the words spoken in the bible and we trust them as though we see them, the evidence of that “seeing” trust takes form in the changed life that follows! We have never seen Jesus on the cross or Moses receiving the ten commandments but why do we Christians believe something we have never seen? Faith is the answer! It does not require faith to view things that are seen but it requires faith to believe in the things not seen. Until a change takes place in one’s heart through the new birth faith in God is an impossibility, but when one becomes a  Christian God gives us a gift called faith that overcomes all the things that are in the world (1John 5:4)! So the invisible becomes visible with the eyes of faith to the believer in God and that is the substance of faith. God bless.

Give it ALL to Jesus!

Matthew 11      I will give you REST.

27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [f]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Inline image
Good Morning. ALL things are given to Jesus by the Father, which means salvation (the saving of one’s soul) is given to Jesus by the Father. We can not know either of them unless we know both of them. In the saving of a soul, no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them to Jesus (John 6:44)! No one can find rest for their souls unless they first come to Jesus with their burdens and give them ALL to Jesus! The result Jesus will give us REST! Putting ourselves in the yoke with Jesus allows Him to pull our load, we just need to ask! His yoke is easy and His burden light. Will we cast our cares on Him today, He might be asking you to “COME UNTO ME” today! God bless.

You can KNOW!

11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has [d]life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, [e]

and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Good Morning. There is a testimony to be heard here in our verses, and it is that God has given us (Christians) eternal life, this eternal life is in Jesus and if one believes in Him they have eternal life, they HAVE the Son! If one does not believe in Jesus he does not have eternal life! John 3:17 puts it like this: 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Here in verse13 we see that we as Christians have the assurance that we have eternal life and we CAN KNOW that if we have the Son as our Savior and eternal life! God bless.

The comfort of these words.

The Comfort of Christ’s Coming 1Thessalonians

Inline image

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen [b]asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who [c]sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are [d]asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Good Morning. Attention All Christians! This is an important message from God. Here in our verses for today, we are given the most encouragement in all of the bible! This is when God returns to this world and all Christians RISE to meet Him. This is no small event, Christians who have died believing in Christ will be caught up in an orderly fashion to meet Him. The dead in Christ (those asleep) shall rise first and other Christians that are still alive at that time will be changed in a moment, in a  twinkling of an eye and rise to Jesus in the air. The comforting words here are that there will never be a separation from Christ the Lord again. Forever we will be with the Lord! All the trials, challenges and sufferings for Christ in this life will be all worth it all when we see Jesus face to face! God bless.

Judged by the Word.

The Word Discovers Our Condition  Hebrews 4

11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Good Morning. When the Israelites left Egypt they were held up in the wilderness forty years before reaching the Promise Land. Some never made it to that restful place because they did not believe God and so those people died in the wilderness. Today we see the same thing, people do not believe God’s word and in their unbelief, they will never see the place of rest God has created in heaven! God’s word will show us our condition and our need for forgiveness and our need for a Savior. God’s word shows us where our heart truly is and if our thoughts are godly. God’s word is alive because we gain fresh insight into the things of God as we read it. God’s word is powerful to change lives and give a fresh start to those who do what it says by accepting Jesus as Savior. Jesus is to be found in the pages of God’s written word and by the Holy Spirit God illuminates and interprets its meaning showing our need for Him! All of us are an open book and stand before God naked and we will be judged by God’s word and have to give an account of our choices here on earth. Thank God for His mercy to forgive all who repent and receive Jesus.

The Exalted Son of God! Pt2

The Son is called GOD. Hebrews 1                                                                                                              8 But to the Son He says “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A [f]scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”10 And: “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.11 They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment;12 Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.”

Good Morning. Many Christians have argued about the fact that God and Jesus are One and as you probably guessed your writer is a firm believer in the trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) being One. There are some things in the bible that we may not comprehend but nonetheless believe, the trinity being one. Some of the truths in the bible are meant for us to understand and some things in the bible are understood only by God! Here in our verses are further proof of the unity (oneness)between God and Jesus, notice here that God is calling Jesus God, the One who laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens!! The eternal nature of Jesus is expressed here, the earth and heavens will perish but the Son will be forever and ever. The scepter (denotes royal, sovereign authority) of righteousness means Jesus rules a kingdom of righteousness the only righteousness which qualifies a soul to come to God and be saved. Are you part of His Kingdom?  God bless.

The Exalted Son of God! Pt1

The Son Exalted Above Angels  Hebrews 1

For to which of the angels did He ever say:

“You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You”?

And again:

“I will be to Him a Father,
And He shall be to Me a Son”?

6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says:

“Let all the angels of God worship Him.”

Good Morning. Here in our text for today, we see God the Father praise and exalt His Son Jesus Christ. “Today I have begotten (born) you“, says the Father meaning Jesus was to come to earth as an innocent baby in human flesh! God’s plan from the beginning to save mankind from their sins was to bring His Son Jesus to this world as the sinless Son of God to atone for the sins of the world! We see the majesty of the Son here in verse 6: “Let all the angels of God worship Him”, only God is worthy of worship! Do you and I honor Jesus as God? Tomorrow we will see that God the Father does!
