ABIDING

Grapes on the Y vine | New Heaven on Earth!

John 15     King James Version (KJV)

15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Good Morning. Some thoughts come to mind as I read the above verses of scripture, one is a vine can exist without a branch but a branch cannot exist without the vine, the branch needs the the life giving substance of the vine to exist. Jesus is calling Himself the Vine. We must abide (remain stay connected in Him) in Him to bear fruit. Another truth I see here in these verses is the fact that Jesus uses a branch (you and I) to bear this fruit and Jesus purges us (prunes the branch) from the old life and its bad habits so that we can bear more fruit. So abiding in Jesus is key to bearing much fruit and without Him we can do nothing!  The way Jesus purges us from the old life is by cleaning us up through the words He speaks and we obey. Are we clean?

Jesus never changes

Hebrews 13New King James Version (NKJV)

13 Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.
Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”[a] So we may boldly say:
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”[b]

Good Morning. There seems to be some controversy as to who wrote the Book of Hebrews , the author is not nearly as important to us than the words that are written, inspired by God! Here we we see  as to how we should conduct ourselves. The first thing I see here is loving one another, love creates an environment that is conducive for the Holy Spirit to dwell. Sometime we have to wonder if we have crossed paths with angels that may have been in our lives unknowingly and saved us from tragedy , we can thank God we made it. The sexual revolution has been going on for centuries and Gods word here is telling us that marriage is the solution to that revolution! True contentment comes with being satisfied with what one has not with what he wants. The Book of 1Timothy6 tells us that “..godliness with contentment is GREAT gain”! One of most comforting verses in all of scripture is found here in our text that helps us through our fears and trials , Jesus will “never leave us nor forsake us” in other words we do not have to feel His presence to know that He is always with us , we can simply trust His word! Psalm 32:8 “.I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.’ John 10:27-30 also makes it very clear the NO ONE can snatch us out of the hand of Jesus or the Father once we are saved. Share the good news! God Bless, Terry

Why do you call Me Lord?

LUKE 6
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Good Morning. The definition for the name Lord has to to with a ruler or king that has authority in whom one must obey, here Jesus is challenging His disciples with the question “why do you call Me Lord and DO NOT the things I say?” IF we do what Jesus commands then a great promise is offered to us and that is our house will not fall apart when the storms (of life) come at us. We can fall back on the promises of our Lord and faith and trust will carry us through the storms of life. Jeremiah 32:27 challenges us from the old testament when God inspires Jeremiah to write “I am the God of all flesh is there anything too hard for Me?” Bottom line is that by obeying His word ” I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”! Be an example

Their Good Example  1Thessalonians 1

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and THE BRAVEpatience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God. For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.
And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe.
Good Morning. Are we good examples for the world to see Jesus living in us? Here in the Book of Thessalonians we see the church was an example of faith, love and hope in Jesus Christ! James 2:26 states that faith without works is dead, when our faith is alive we will want to do deeds that demonstrate that we believe in Christ and are saved. Works for God show our love for Him and the life changing reality that faith brings! Laboring for our Lord is an act of love and obedience. Our patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ is not diminished by circumstances, we trust His promises. In verse 5 of our text we see that the Apostle Paul believed that preaching the word of God was not words only but the power of the Holy Spirit that makes the word of God alive! Finally here in our text we are seeing that the presence of the Holy Spirit brings joy to the believer and we become that good example of Christ in  the world.                                        God Bless,Terry  Oct 30, 2017

Seek FIRST the Kingdom of God

20170730_124029.jpg
MATTHEW 6  28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Good Morning.  If we are honest with ourselves most of us worry about one thing or another. Here in our text and certainly in other places in the bible we are told to not be anxious or worry.(ie. Philippians 4:6,7) God is predictable according to His word! What does relieve our worry and stress and our fears? As light and darkness cannot occupy the same place at the same time and darkness being the absence of light we can maybe make an assumption here that worry, anxiety and fear are the absence of faith,(where there is faith fear has to go,) faith is a perishable item it needs to be revitalized daily. Restoring our faith daily is one reason to read Gods words daily , Jesus said in John 6:63; “My words are Spirit and they are Life!” Other factors build our faith, a quiet time with God in prayer, assembling ourselves together (church attendance), forgiveness, loving people and God and sharing our belief in God etc. And finally doing these things regularly is a way of seeking the Kingdom of God first and His righteousness and ALL our needs will be added to us from Jesus Christ our Lord and all our tomorrows will be taken care of!          God Bless,Terry   Oct. 29 2017

Paul’s emotional “goodbye”

ACTS 20
32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able tobuild you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. 34 Yes,[d] you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
36 And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37 Then they all wept freely, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him, 38 sorrowing most of all for the words which he spoke, that they would see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.

Good Morning. As the Apostle Paul was about to leave Militus for Jerusalem the elders that he was meeting with from Ephesus understood the great danger Paul was about to face on his return to Jerusalem but Paul would have it no other way! He was dedicated to sharing the gospel whether his life was in danger  or not. Notice the true example of discipleship (John 13:34,35) as the believing elders show love in the emotional departure, as Paul prayed with these fellow believers, “they wept and fell on Pauls’s neck and kissed him” and said their goodbyes! One thing for sure in heaven we will not only see Jesus but Paul and ALL our friends and family members who profess Jesus as Lord. What a Day that shall be!      God Bless,Terry   Oct. 28, 2017

Paul’s dedication and compassion

Acts 20
25 “And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God[c] which He purchased with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

Good Morning. Paul the Apostle here in the Book of Acts 20 is getting ready to depart for Jerusalem and has called the elders of the church in Ephesus for a meeting, his location is Miletus. Paul understands that he will not see these fellow believers any more and is giving them some final warning. “Take heed to yourselves and ALL the flock which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.”These leaders were called to shepherd the church of God which God Himself purchased with His own blood! Paul understood that when he left that false teachers would come in and teach a false doctrine. He called them savage wolves! Are they still around today? That is why it is so vitally important to study God’s word for ourselves so we can know the truth. In verse 31 we see Paul’s loyalty and compassion  serving Jesus  as he taught the church with tears. Paul was empowered by God with a passion for Christ and he led by example! I think there is a lesson here for all of us.                                                                                              God Bless, Terry       Oct. 27, 2017

Draw near to God

JAMES 4
6 But He gives more grace therefore He says “God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”[c]
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…..

Good Morning. In the Book of the Psalms 34:18 it states The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Humility and godliness go hand in hand, here in our text we see that God resists the proud but gives His grace to the humble. There are no “big shots” in heaven! Jesus was asked who is the greatest in heaven (Mat 23:11) and His answer was But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant” So we see to be close to our Lord we must be humble. Submission and obedience to God is the best way to resist the devil and the promise is that he will flee from you. Now that doesn’t mean that he will not return but here with Gods plan we can draw near to God and give no place for the enemy because He cannot come in where Gods Holy Spirit is living and active.1John 4:4 “ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”                                           God bless,Terry  Oct. 26, 2017 (on this day in 1960 my father passed away)

Confess or Deny?

22192Jesus Teaches the Fear of God   Matthew 10

27 “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
Good Morning. I have come to the conclusion that acknowledging Jesus in this troubled world brings  Gods direction and leadership to ones life(Proverbs 3:5,6).Sometime we recognize this sometimes not but a couple of things Jesus makes perfectly clear here in our text, one is that  God the Father knows EVERTHING about us even the hairs on our head are numbered! Jesus tells us do not fear him who can destroy the body but fear Him who can destroy both body and soul in hell, and that is God! So today we have choices we can confess Jesus and share the wonderful Gospel or we can deny Jesus in this  world but IF we deny Jesus there is a great consequence to pay (verse33)! May the Lord give us courage to share His love.      God Bless,Terry  Oct. 25, 2017

Love not the world

1 John 2:15-17    King James Version (KJV)

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Good Morning. If we are told over and over by fancy advertising that we need to buy this or that because this is what the trend is , this is what society is buying, eventually we will probably give in and buy what is popular. The lust of the flesh convinces us that we NEED(?)  these things, the lust of the eyes tells us “boy that would look good in my driveway”, the pride of life tells us “boy the neighbors will be envious when they see what we have”! All these things God is warning us in His word to stay away from because they eventually lead to frustration and emtiness and they are the way of the world and the “world passes away and the lust thereof”! Also see Luke 12:15 “And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.! But he who does the will of God abides forever! Gods word reminds us to be IN the world but not OF the world and we Christians are to “…shine as lights”… in a crooked and perverse nation..”(Phil 2:15) Are we shining for Jesus today?                                     God Bless, Terry  Oct. 24, 2015
